![]() About UsOur HistoryThe National Eye Research Centre was established in Bristol in 1986 as a Registered Charity whose purpose is to carry out research into the causes and treatment of diseases and disabilities of the eye and the prevention of blindness and to publish the results of the research. The charity was set up as a national charity and as funds became available support was given to eye research not only in Bristol but also elsewhere in other eye centres throughout the United Kingdom. There is a branch based in Leeds known as Yorkshire Eye Research that raises funds in Yorkshire for eye research in Yorkshire. The charity is a member of the Association of Medical Research Charities and of the Fundraising Standards Board. There is a Scientific Advisory Committee that considers all grant applications, after they have been peer reviewed, not only in Bristol but elsewhere in the United Kingdom. The Centre holds a garden party each year for its supporters and runs a number of other fundraising events. It is particularly grateful to the many trusts, businesses and individuals who support its appeal. |
